Mandela Day
On Mandela Day this year you can spend your 67 minutes (and even more) with TLC Children’s Home.
Join us for
We have arranged three fun days full of off-site and supervised on-site activities that will help TLC.
You can register to participate on your own, with your family and friends or with your company (all children under the age of 15 are to have adult supervision). The registration fee is R67, to cover our costs. There is even an option for international participants to contribute!
You can participate on these three days during two time slots, depending on your availability.

Session 1: 9am-12pm
Session 2: 1pm-4pm
At TLC Children's Home
We have a range of activities you can do to help us, at TLC. Once you register you will be able to select which activity you want to do.
Some activities have a registration fee to cover their costs, while others have no fee but require you to bring the materials for the activity.
What to know on the day
Uniform
All TLC staff will be in uniform so you know who we are​
Registration
Please visit the registration table on arrival to confirm your details and sign our photo book
Orientation
There will be a 10-minute orientation every hour on the hour to bring you up to speed!
Your Session
You will be shown to your area and introduced to the TLC supervisor for your session
Donation Station
There will be a Donation Station for any old clothing, non-perishable food, nappies, formula and other goods you might wish to donate

Make a Mandela Day Meal

How: A team puts together a lunchtime meal and shares it with TLC staff and children - for the 9am-12pm session only.

Room Makeovers
Redecorate a child's bedroom with new linen, accessories and décor
​
How: A team is assigned to makeover a child's room for their personality, age and preferences, in 67 minutes.

Pathway Renovation
Lay a smooth pigmented
cement layer on top of existing brick pathway

How: Each person does 1 meter.
​

Refresh-A-Room
The 12 rooms and 6 bathrooms in the volunteer cottages need to be refreshed

How: A team is assigned a 2 sleeper volunteer room to refresh with linen, curtaining, small furnishings, décor and accessories.

Plant a Flower Bed
Plant flower beds in the area surrounding the volunteers cottages

How: Teams prepare a section of ground into a bed and plant flowers there.

At Your Home or Office
If you cannot join us at TLC, there are fun activities you can do at your home or office to spend #67withTLC.
Once you register, you will receive an email with all the requirements and suggestions for your chosen activity.

Collection
We can arrange to collect any items you make - details will be in your registration confirmation email.

Prepare baby food for the nursery

How: A person prepares appropriate vegetables and fruit by peeling, chopping, steaming, pureeing and freezing.
